Why can hair fall out more during autumn?

Prečo môžu vlasy počas jesene vypadávať viac?

Hello, beast! 🍁 Have you also noticed that with the arrival of autumn, you start to see more and more hair on your comb? Fall hair loss is quite common and happens to most of us, regardless of whether we have short or long hair.

You might be wondering why this is happening in autumn. And yes, seasonal changes are really behind it. Hair received its dose of sun, heat, salt water and chlorine during the summer, which took its toll. Therefore, in the fall, they naturally go into the telogen phase - i.e. the renewal phase, where old hair falls out and makes way for new ones. Think of it as a hair detox!

Less sunlight and vitamin D ☀️

The summer sun is super important for the body because it helps create vitamin D – one of the key players for hair growth. Vitamin D nourishes the hair follicles from which new hair grows. But when the shorter, colder days come, the sun's rays begin to disappear and with them our vitamin D. And what happens? The follicles go into the attenuation phase, which is also reflected in the hair.

Change in temperature = stress for hair

With autumn, temperatures begin to change - it's colder outside, while at home we often create heat by heating. It's like a mini shock therapy for the hair. Alternating temperatures weakens them and makes them more prone to shedding. Hair likes stability, and autumn somehow doesn't give it that. So yes, every transition from a warm interior to the autumn cold is a kind of stress for them.

Weakening of immunity and seasonal diseases 🤧

Autumn colds and diseases weaken the immune system, which instead of nourishing the hair concentrates on fighting bacteria. When your body is trying to stay healthy, it often has less energy to support the hair follicles, which can start shedding more than usual. In short, the body has its priorities, although we would prefer a rich mane.

Be patient and give your hair time

Fall hair loss is completely normal and for most of us it is a temporary condition. Over time, the hair will adapt, new growth will occur and the cycle will return to normal. Nutrition, hydration and proper care from the outside and the inside work wonders, so no stress, your hair can handle it. 🧡
